"Forth house wins National Building Award"

Forth couple Leon and Helen Peck love their new home - and now the Master Builder's Association has agreed it is pretty special.

The 38-square rendered brick residence at Wilmot Road won Ulverstone builder John Beswick special recognition on Saturday night when it was judged as the 'Best Project or Contract Home in Australia between $350,000 and $500,000'.

Designed to take advantage of stunning river views, the Pecks had owned the land for about five years before building began late last year.

Mrs Peck said a close working relationship with Mr Beswick had made the project successful.

"We are really pleased with it, there is no wastage (in terms of space), there are no halls, no curtains (because of double glazed windows)," she said.

"In Winter it is beautiful and warm and great now it is coming into summer."

Mr Beswick said the award took him a little by surprise.

"You do not think you will win a national award," he said

Mrs Peck was not as surprised.

"it really is a nice design ... it is not over the top and is designed to fit in with the land," she said.

Mr Beswick praised the efforts of his tradespeople, apprentices and sub-contractors in bringing the project to fruition.
